Back Pain
What’s back pain?
Back pain is not a sickness on its own but a sign that something’s wrong with the muscles, nerves, or even the bones in your back. It might even point to issues with your kidneys.
What does back pain feel like?
- A dull ache in your lower back.
- Sharp pain shooting down your leg.
- Trouble standing upright or bending over.
- If it lasts for over three months, it’s chronic.
Serious signs to watch for: numb legs, loss of bladder control, pain that keeps you up at night, or sudden weight loss, go and see a doctor!
Why does your back hurt?
- Muscle strains: lifting heavy stuff the wrong way or overworking.
- Structural issues: problems with the bones or discs in your spine.
- Arthritis: as we age, our joints start to wear out, causing pain.
- Osteoporosis: weak bones that break easily, even with small movements.
How to keep back pain away?
- Lighten your load: don’t carry heavy loads at once. Use backpacks or distribute weight evenly.
- Posture matters: sit up straight, whether on a plastic chair or sofa.
- Stretch & move: daily stretches enhance circulation in the muscles and reduces back pain.
- Supportive shoes: wear comfortable shoes whenever necessary.
Treating back pain?
- Pain meds: over-the-counter pills can help ease the ache.
- Relax and rest: take a break from lifting or bending, and let your back heal.
- Stretching: a little yoga or stretching can go a long way in making sure your back stays strong.
