What is covid-19?
Covid-19 is caused by a virus called SARS-CoV-2. It started in Wuhan, China, but by 2020, it had spread globally. It can make you sick with things like coughing, fever, and feeling super tired and it can even show up without you feeling anything at first.
What are the symptoms?
- A cough that won’t quit
- Fever and chills
- Feeling super tired
- Shortness of breath or a runny nose
- Less common symptoms: include mild to moderate issues like shivering, sore throat, headache, muscle pain, digestive problems (diarrhoea, nausea, vomiting), skin discoloration, pink eye, and rash. These symptoms might not be immediately alarming but still indicate a covid-19 infection.
- Severe symptoms: like difficulty breathing, blue lips/face, chest pain, confusion, and extreme drowsiness suggest that the virus is affecting critical body functions, particularly the lungs and brain. These require immediate medical attention.
Who’s at risk?
- The elderly and people with health conditions like diabetes, heart disease, or high blood pressure
- A weak immune system or older adults
- Those living with someone who has covid-19
How does covid-19 spread?
When an infected person coughs, sneezes, talks, or even touches something, the virus can jump to you.
How do you protect yourself?
