Fungal Skin Infection
What is fungal skin infection?
Fungal skin infections are very common and love warm, sweaty places like your feet, armpits, groin, and even scalp! They spread easily through shared clothing, towels, and even shaking hands.
What causes it?
Fungi live on our skin naturally. But when they multiply too much, they cause problems. This happens more in:
- Hot, humid weather.
- Sweaty, unwashed skin.
- Tight clothes and shoes. • A weak immune system.
Common types of fungal infections?
- Ringworm (tinea corporis): No, it’s not a worm! It’s a fungus that creates red, ringlike rashes on your skin. It spreads easily
- Athlete’s foot: Itchy, cracked feet (often from wearing sweaty shoes too long).
- Jock itch: These targets guys, causing an itchy rash around the groin.
- Scalp ringworm (“kakawerewere”) – Mostly in kids, causing bald patches and itchiness.
- Tinea versicolor – Discolored patches on your skin (black, brown, or white).
How to stay fungi-free?
- Bathe daily and keep skin dry
- Wear loose, breathable clothes
- Change socks and underwear regularly
- Dry shoes in the sun
- Don’t share towels, clothes, or combs
Treatment?
- Use antifungal creams, powders, or shampoos (available in pharmacies).
- Keep skin dry, air out your shoes, wear loose clothes, and change sweaty outfits fast.
- Stop sharing personal items.
