Hernia

What is a Hernia?

A hernia happens when something inside your body, like your intestines decides to push through a weak spot in your muscle. Hernias are not always painful, but they don’t go away on their own. Some need surgery to fix before they cause serious problems.

Types of hernias?

  • Inguinal hernia: The most common, usually in men, where intestines push through the lower abdomen near the groin.
  • Hiatal hernia: When part of your stomach sneaks up through your diaphragm into your chest. It can cause acid reflux.
  • Umbilical hernia: Common in babies, this is when the intestines bulge near the belly button.
  • Ventral hernia: This happens in the abdomen and can grow bigger over time. It sometimes appears after surgery.

Common myths about hernia?

  • Hernia won’t “melt” away: No herbal mix, tea, or miracle pill can dissolve it. Surgery is the only permanent fix.
  • It’s not just for old people: Even babies and young adults can get it.
  • It won’t go away on its own: Ignoring it is like ignoring it only gets worse!

Who’s at risk?

  • People who lift heavy things often
  • Pregnant women
  • Those with chronic coughing or constipation
  • Smokers (smoking weakens body tissues)
