What is stroke?

A stroke happens when blood flow to the brain is blocked or a blood vessel bursts, causing brain cells to die. This can lead to serious health problems, so fast action is key!

What are the types of strokes?

  • TIA (Mini-stroke): A temporary blockage that clears up on its own.
  • Ischemic stroke: A blocked artery due to a clot or plaque buildup.
  • Hemorrhagic stroke: A burst blood vessel causing bleeding in the brain.

What are some symptoms of stroke?

  • Sudden weakness or numbness (especially on one side of the body)
  • Slurred speech or trouble understanding others
  • Vision problems (blurry or double vision)
  • Loss of balance, dizziness, or difficulty walking
  • Severe headache with no clear cause

Risk factors

  • Lifestyle: Unhealthy diet, lack of exercise, smoking, and heavy alcohol use.
  • Medical conditions: High blood pressure, diabetes, heart disease, and obesity.
  • Personal factors: Family history, older age, and ethnicity (Africans are at higher risk).
